Yellow Pumpkin
📍 Japan
Yellow Pumpkin, also known as Shinsen Hiroshige, is a pumpkin-inspired pavilion located on the art island of Naoshima in the Seto Inland Sea of Japan. It was created in 1992 by artist Shinro Ohtake and was intended to be a symbol of the locals' pursuit of a unique kind of life dedicated to art, culture, and nature. The pavilion features a surreal, brightly-colored pumpkin-shaped structure that houses a cafe and art gallery.

The Yellow Pumpkin is created from seven bright yellow planes shaped slightly asymmetrically like a pumpkin. It is illuminated at night, and its dynamic lighting makes it look like it's rotating. The building invites visitors to explore its many hidden corners and levels. There are terraces, patios, galleries and courts where visitors can enjoy the colorful environment and art works, as well as a cafe to relax and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. The area surrounding the Yellow Pumpkin is home to many smaller art installations such as sculptures, benches, and colorful chairs, so it's a great spot for picture taking. Exploring the area provides a unique and engaging experience, so it's an experience you won't want to miss during your trip to Naoshima!
