Set on the edge of a lake, the castle is now owned by the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is open to the public. The castle, surrounded by moats and walls, features a variety of architectural styles. Inside the castle, visitors can see the impressive and grand 19th century Baroque style interior. The former chapel of St. Peter and Paul is now a museum, featuring 17th century altarpieces, weapons and various artifacts from the castle's past. The grounds also include a fishpond, a small castle gate, and a natural bird sanctuary.
