Thrihnukagigur Volcano

Thrihnukagigur Volcano (Iceland) is a dormant volcano just outside Reykjavik city that makes for an incredible geological experience. The only magma chamber in the world that you can explore, it is possible to descend 120m into the magma chamber by lift, and be surrounded by the walls of solidified magma. The top of the volcano is surrounded by a lush green landscape that hosts a variety of bird species. Within the crater, you can observe the spectacular red, orange, yellow and black colors of the cooled lava that creates such an incredible landscape. Although the volcano can no longer erupt, its formation is believed to have last erupted 4,000-5,000 years ago, and the fire and ice of Iceland are still astonishingly visible around it!
