Grindavik
📍 Frá Beach, Iceland
Grindavík is a small fishing town located in the South Coast of Iceland, near the Blue Lagoon and the Reykjanes peninsula. It is the main fishing port of West Iceland, hosting some of the busiest fleets in the country. Enjoy a stroll along the coastal path, check out the old harbour, and explore the small, picturesque streets of the nearby towns.

Grindavík is also home to the Valahnúkamöl Library, which is home to an archive of photographs, paintings and literary works from the area. It also contains the works of some of Iceland's most renowned authors, including Halldor Laxness, who was born in Grindavík in 1902. Also visit the nearby Kleifarvatn and Krýsuvík Lakes, two of the most famous and captivating sights of the region. Drive up the geothermal valley to get a glimpse of the numerous bubbling springs, hot streams and seething fissures, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. You can also take a boat out to the Eldey Island Nature Reserve, and the nearby Gunnuhver Geothermal Field, an awe-inspiring and unique geological phenomenon. Right outside town and near Drainalaug, there is the multi-tiered hot spring, Seltún. Seltún is an amazing area, full of steaming fumaroles, multicoloured mud pots and hot springs, of which the most famous are named ‘Króka-Stígur’, or “the crooked stairs.” Here you can really enjoy the power of geothermal energy at work.
