The Catedral Metropolitana de Panama, located in Panama City, Panama, is a grand and opulent example of 19th century Baroque Stone architecture. Built in 1796 on the site of the old San Jose Church, the cathedral has beautiful Neo-Classical and Baroque elements, as well as a fantastic mural painted by Belisario Porras depicting the Virgin Mary with local children. It is also home to the remains of Vasco Nunez de Balboa, the discoverer of the Pacific Ocean. Visitors can explore the cathedral's well-preserved interior, stained glass windows, and sacred paintings. Outside, visitors can appreciate the tall towers and other interesting details, such as the decorative carvings that adorn the portal, which are believed to be symbols of Spanish colonial authority. The cathedral is a popular destination for tourists, locals and pilgrims alike and is definitely worth a visit when in Panama City.
