Bridge of Sighs
📍 Frá Catte Street, United Kingdom
The Bridge of Sighs and Catte Street, in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, is a popular site for tourists and photographers. The Bridge of Sighs is a covered bridge linking two parts of Hertford College in Oxford. Its name comes from the suggestion that it was used by prisoners in the college's private prison, which was closed in 1897. The bridge was designed by the Oxford-based architect Thomas G. Jackson and built in 1914. Catte Street is located just off the High Street in the center of Oxford. It is home to the Bodleian Library, built by Sir Thomas Bodley in the late 16th century. The library is a popular tourist attraction and contains some 4 million books and manuscripts. The street boasts numerous other historical buildings, including the Radcliffe Camera, All Souls College Chapel, the Schools Quadrangle, and the Oxford Union. It is also one of the most picturesque areas of Oxford and offers some great views of the city.
