The Basilica di San Francesco in Bologna, Italy, is a historic Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi. Constructed in 1224-1304 AD, it is a Gothic-style building with a unique, polychrome terracotta facade. Inside, the church is renowned for its huge crypt — the largest of such in Europe — and its intricate stonework. The church also houses the remains of Saint Francis, the original founding of the Franciscan order, and is the main focus of many special festivals throughout the year.
