Universitätsplatz

Universitätsplatz and Park is one of the most historic areas in Rostock, Germany. The area consists of a large park, the Neuer Markt, Universitätsplatz, and a smaller park, the Schillertheater. It is a popular spot for locals, who come to stroll, relax and chat, but also a favorite of visitors. Universitätsplatz is mostly known for Liebknechtbrunnen, a 1920s fountain made in honor of Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, two important members of the German Social Democratic Party. The park includes flower beds and ancillary plants, as well as over 400 trees of more than 40 species. The south side of the Neuer Markt is marked by a large bust of Gustav Adolf, the ruler of Petrigard during the 17th century. The surrounding buildings are mainly decorated with intricate stone sculptures and reflect different architectural styles, making it a great spot for photography.
