
The Portlet Tower in Jersey is an impressive medieval castle situated atop a rocky headland. Originally built to protect the island from French naval invasion in 1204, it is one of the best maintained and most visible fortifications of the period. Its walls remain largely intact and it remains an icon of Jersey’s military past. Visitors can access the castle by clambering up a winding path to the entrance and exploring the structure within. The tower stands at the highest elevation on Jersey and offers stunning vistas of the northern coast of the island. Inside, you can explore rooms, stairways and secret passageways, alongside view the remains of medieval furniture, cannon and ruins of other fortifications.
