Portici di Piazza Cavour in Bologna is part of the UNESCO-recognised complex of Bologna's 20th century porticos. The porticos form a 2 km monumental colonnade surrounding the city's historical centre. The Cavour portico is the main entrance to the historic centre and features four rows of beautiful 18th century columns designed by the influential Baroque architect Francesco Tibaldi. The two side entrance wings are decorated with bas-reliefs of historical and allegorical figures. The portico was built by Prince Ranieri Junior on the orders of Pope Pius VI, and is now home to a number of small restaurants, stores and bars. It's also the ideal place for people-watching and enjoying the atmosphere of this vibrant cultural city.
