The Statue of Liberty is one of the most recognized symbols of the United States and serves as a reminder of the country’s promise of freedom, justice and democracy. Located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, this neoclassical sculpture was a joint effort between France and the U.S. and was dedicated in 1886. It is more than 305 feet tall and constructed of delicate yet durable copper sheets. Visitors can access Liberty Island by ferry and take in breathtaking views of the Lady of the Harbor. Inside the monument, visitors can access the pedestal and crown (entry limited) and visit the museum, with visitors having the opportunity to view the original torch, located in the lobby. There is also a gift shop with unique souvenirs. The Statue of Liberty National Monument welcomes visitors year-round, with ferry service operating even during the winter months.
