Lake Drummond is part of the Great Dismal Swamp, a vast wetlands located mainly in southeastern Virginia. It is one of only two natural lakes in the state, and is thought to be more than 4,500 years old. The lake is a popular destination for boaters, wildlife watchers, and photographers alike. Boating on the lake requires a permit and is a great way to explore the surrounding creeks and canals. Birdwatchers will find a variety of species here including osprey, bald eagles, and more. Photographers can get great shots of the scenery, wildlife, and plenty of the old-growth cypress trees. The lake lies within the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and is managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
