Faro de Muxía

Faro de Muxía is perhaps the best known landmark in the region of Galicia in Spain. Located in A Coruña, the Faro de Muxía (Lighthouse of Muxía) stands at 80 feet tall on Rouso dos Ixtoviños, overlooking the ocean. The present day lighthouse was built in 1887 to replace the old structure that was damaged in the 19th century and is one of the most photographed lighthouses of northwest Spain. Visitors can not only admire the impressive architecture, but also the stunning views out over the ocean and nearby coast. A short boat trip from the coast takes visitors to some of the nearby coastal caves of Gorliz and Portalón and the settlements of Arenal and Area. There are also several activities such as whale watching and tours to beaches, cliffs, and natural parks nearby. The site is open to visitors all day and tickets for the lighthouse tower can be purchased at the ticket office at the base of the tower.
