Centro de Epecuén

Centro de Epecuén is an amazing ghost town in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Located near the town of Carhue on the shores of Lago Epecuén, Centro de Epecuén was once a village bustling with businesses and tourists. Unfortunately, a huge flood in 1985 caused the lake to expand and cover the entire town in 25 meters of salty water, making it the one of the most unique ghost towns in the world. The salty water allowed for remarkable preservation of the locations which remain about 30 years after the event. Visitors to Centro de Epecuén are able to explore the remains in detail, from the old train station and theatre to the wooden houses on the lake’s shore.
