The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge in Mount Pleasant, SC is an iconic part of the Charleston skyline. Built in 2005, the bridge spans the Cooper River, connecting Mount Pleasant with downtown Charleston. The so-called “Pearl of the Lowcountry” is equipped with a 12-foot-wide bicycle/pedestrian walkway and a 1,546-foot long cable-stayed truss bridge made of two towers, so-called “signature” cables, with the capacity to handle 22 lanes of traffic. The bridge is 8 lane-mile long and 876 feet above sea level, making it thehighest bridge in South Carolina. It’s also the longest cable-stayed bridge in the Western Hemisphere. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the 360-degree views of Mt. Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, and Charleston Harbor from the pedestrian walkway.
