Patio de Escuelas

Patio de Escuelas, also known as the Patio of the Universities, is a beautiful Renaissance-style courtyard located in Salamanca, Spain. It is located within the walls of the old city and is the main courtyard of the ancient universities. It is surrounded by the university's faculties and offers a stunning view of the city. The two main attractions in the Patio are the statue of Fray Luis de Leon, who studied and taught in the university, and a fountain built by Alonzo Chacon in 1583. The courtyard also boasts grand pillars and arches, sundials and several ancient chapels, as well as quaint gardens with benches. To visit the Patio de Escuelas, visitors must be accompanied by an official guide, or else there is no way to access the courtyard.
