Palacio de los Duques de Braganza

The Palacio de los Duques de Braganza, or Duke of Braganza Palace, in the city of Guimarães, Portugal, is a breathtaking example of Gothic-Renaissance architecture. Situated on a hilltop overlooking the city, this magnificent monumment was built in the 15th century as part of the Portuguese royal court. It was once home to members of the Braganza family, including the first King of Portugal, Afonso I. The facade of the palace has six-meter high towers and a luxurious interior of carved stone and gilded details. Inside, visitors can take in grand chambers, staircases, and even a chapel. The palace offers a plethora of historical details for visitors to explore as well as regularly scheduled exhibitions. Guimarães is known in Portugal as the "birthplace of Portugal" and was recently named an UNESCO World Heritage site.
