The Massachusetts State House is one of the most iconic buildings in the greater Boston area. It is home to the government of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is located at the heart of the city. Built in 1798 during the Federal Period of the United States, the building is the oldest continuously operating state capitol in the United States. It was designed by noted architect Charles Bulfinch and its original design inspirations are Neo-Classical and Federal style, making it a unique architectural construct. The facility includes the historical chambers of the general court of Massachusetts, the state's Senate and House of Representatives, as well as the office of the governor. Its impressive golden dome can be seen from around the city, and its front Egg lawn is a welcoming site for visitors and dignitaries. A must-see for anyone traveling to this city.
