The Abbazia di Senanque is a medieval Cistercian Abbey located in the Provencal village of Gordes, Southern France. Founded in 1148 by a group of Cistercian monks looking for refuge, the Abbey has been restored to its former beauty over the centuries. Its most impressive feature is the flower-filled meadow that surrounds the abbey, making it a popular photographic subject. Inside, visitors will discover a Romanesque Church with a distinctive three-level elevation, and the main hall with its 16th century Renaissance frescoes. The Abbey Library, with its ancient manuscripts, is another highlight.
