St. Mary's Church in Berlin

St. Mary's Church (Marktkirche St. Marien) is one of the oldest churches in Berlin and an important monument of Prussian Baroque. Founded in 1268, the church is the mother church of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia. St. Mary's Church is a multi-functional venue for worship, concerts and special events and it stands firmly in the middle of the city’s history. Its open-air Baroque Church Square (Kirchplatz) is surrounded by the Church of St. Mary and the Crypt of Cathedral St. Hedwig's. In its interior, you can admire vivid frescos and bas-reliefs as well as two panels painted by famous Berlin painter Johann Conrad Schlaun. St. Mary’s Church offers its visitors a chance to experience the past in an exotic atmosphere. The crypt of Saint Hedwig is one of the highlights of the historic-cultural complex and is one of the oldest crypts in Germany. It was mostly built in the 17th century and features different styles of art, including Rococo. This site of the Church of St. Mary is a must-see for anyone visiting Berlin.
