Santuário de Cristo Rei

Santuário de Cristo Rei is one of the most iconic landmarks in Portugal, located in the municipality of Almada, near Lisbon. Built in 1959, it is a towering white statue of the ascending Christ, similar to the famous christo redentor statue of Rio de Janeiro. This sculpture stands 80 metres high at the edge of a high cliff, overlooking the Tagus River. It is a popular tourist attraction, offering spectacular views, and the perfect place for an unforgettable photography experience. There is a cable car to the statue from Pedrouços, near Almada, and a walking path near the statue. There is also a chapel nearby and a pathway leading to the top of the monument.
