The Memorial Church of Kaiser Wilhelm, or Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche in German, is perhaps the defining landmark in the western district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in Berlin, Germany. Dedicated to Kaiser Wilhelm I, the first Emperor of the German Empire and King of Prussia, the church has stood since 1895, and is renowned for its brightly-colored vaults, marble pillars, and Gothic-style architecture. It is a popular destination for visitors from all walks of life and provides a beautiful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. After the ruins were destroyed during World War II, the destroyed spire was kept standing as a reminder of the tragic events. Nowadays, the Church is home to a museum within, which documents the history of Berlin. Visitors and locals alike also come to pay their respects, light candles, and pray.
