Hospital Ward - Old Joliet Prison

The Old Joliet Prison in Joliet, United States has a long and tumultuous history. Formerly a tuberculosis hospital, the state prison was open from 1858 to 2002. The maximum security prison was considered one of the most infamous during its time in operation, and many inmates have made claims of mistreatment while serving their time there. Today, the ward is a somewhat eerie sight to behold, as the red brick and steel structure is left mostly untouched and decaying. Though access is limited, the ward can be seen from afar, representing an odd and uncomfortable piece of the city of Joliet's past in stark contrast with its current community.
