Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica

Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica is a historical national theater located in downtown San José, Costa Rica. Built between 1889 and 1897 to commemorate the centennial of the country’s independence, the theater is Renaissance-inspired and showcases a luxurious interior design, featuring an impressive palatial white marble staircase and colorful frescoes covering the walls and ceilings. It serves as a playground for performing arts, housing the National Symphony Orchestra, the National Ballet, the National Opera and several theater troupes and concerts from all over the world. Visitors may take in a performance or take a guided tour of the building which allows them to explore the historic halls and rooms, decorated with sculptures and artwork. The theatre hosts the popular Festival Internacional de las Artes, an event dedicated to promoting the country’s culture and talent. Photo-lovers can capture beautiful shots of the exterior, showcasing a blend of Neoclasical, Baroque and Renaissance styles, as well as of the elegant interior.
