Mount St. Benedict Abbey

The Mount St. Benedict Abbey, located in Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago, is an active Benedictine monastery, established in 1912 by monks from England. The abbey is set in tranquil surroundings, full of nature and wildlife, and offers visitors a chance to pray, meditate and experience the peace and beauty of the monastery grounds. The abbey boasts breathtaking views over majestic mountains, lush valleys and the rolling, azure Caribbean Sea. The brightly colored 18th century architecture stands in stark contrast to the surrounding tropical hills. Regular masses are held for the public, as well as concerts in the abbey’s ornate chapel. Guided tours of the monastery grounds and the abbey’s carefully preserved baroque interior are also available. For photo ops, the church's two baroque towers provide the perfect backdrop. The monks of Mount St. Benedict Abbey also produce their own range of ales and meads. The monastery also serves as a home away from home for those who wish to stay in its guest houses.
