Monastery Katholiko

The Monastery Katholiko is situated in Akrotiri, just under the majestic 590m-high volcanic mountain. It is an old 16th century monastery, probably built on the ruins of an even older one. It is a beautiful place, surrounded by rocky hills and canyons, with a stunning panoramic view of the Caldera. Inside the monastery, you can find remnants of the old Library and some frescoes preserved in the walls. The area is rich in Byzantine churches, traditional windmills, and old lighthouses, making it one of the top destinations for photographers and travelers looking for a unique landscape and some isolated beauty, far away from the hustle and bustle of the more mainstream locations.
