📍 Từ Dunkerque, France
Halle aux Sucres is a stunning, historic sugar factory located in Dunkerque, France. Built in 1843, the factory has been in continuous use ever since it was first constructed. Today it is a fascinating place to visit and explore, as it holds some of the oldest example of industrial architecture in Europe. The brick and brick-bunker building is a wonder of turn-of-the-century industrialization, and its tall coal chutes are fascinating to explore.

Inside, the loading docks of Halle aux Sucres have gradually been transformed into a fascinating exhibition hall, with a permanent display of photos and documents from its industrial past. The exhibition hall is also home to many different contemporary works from local and international artists. During the summer months, the factory also holds several cultural activities such as concerts, theatre plays, workshops and more. An iconic feature of Halle aux Sucres is the impressive exterior facade that has been preserved along with the building. It features breathtaking images and sculptures of local history, people, and landscapes. An exact replica of Guy de Jean’s Neptune can be found inside the domed ceiling. Visiting Halle aux Sucres you will get a glimpse of the industrial heritage of France and step back into the age of heavy industry. Its fascinatingly preserved interior and exterior make it a well worth visiting place.
