Phare de Biarritz

The Phare de Biarritz, a lighthouse on the Basque Coast of France, was built in 1834 in response to the rapidly increasing maritime traffic bringing people to the coast for leisure and fishing. The lighthouse is 41m tall and offers spectacular views over the bay of Biarritz; its lamp shines every 5 seconds at night and can be seen as far as 28km away. Its grounds offer a lovely spot for a leisurely stroll, with benches and pathways where you can marvel at the sight of the surrounding mountains, cliffs, and ocean. From up there, you can spot dolphins and whales in the sea or even catch a glimpse of Spain, if the weather is right. The site also hosts occasional cultural events and exhibitions.
