Franz Josef Glacier

Franz Josef Glacier is one of the most breathtaking experiences in the world, located in South Westland, New Zealand. It is an 11 km long glacier flowing from the alpine peaks down to the lush rainforest of Waiho valley. You can walk along the path that follows the glacier's terminal face, and take in the 360-degree views of the icy blue glacier surrounded by the magnificent Southern Alps. The best way to explore this alpine wonder is by taking a guided tour with an experienced guide. The tour usually takes a few hours and you can explore some of the many quartzite caves along the gorge, learn about the local geology and ecology, and even stand atop the glacier for a breathtaking view.
