Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte

The majestic Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is the perfect setting for a step back in time. Located at the edge of the coteaux of Seine-et-Marne Valley, it is one of the most grandiose noble residences in France. Built by Louis Le Vau and his two sons between 1657 and 1661 for Nicholas Fouquet, the Superintendent of Finances for King Louis XIV, it was the first period of French classicism, and served as the inspiration for Versailles. The castle is an impressive example of baroque architecture. With its grand multi-level gardens, five fountains, numerous statues and meticulously planned groves, it will take your breath away. It was restored in the 1980’s, and today it is open to visitors who will be able to enjoy the music concerts held there during the summer months.
