The Monument to the Great Fire of London is a 202 feet high near-Doric column located in the City of London, at the junction of Monument Street and Fish Street Hill. The monument commemorates the Great Fire of London in 1666. Designed by Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke, the monument was built between 1671 and 1677. The Doric column sits upon a base of Portland stone and serves as a reminder of the Great Fire. The entire structure is topped with a gilded urn of fire. It is open daily for visitors to climb the 311 steps to the top, from where one can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the City of London. The monument is a listed building and is considered to form part of the "World Heritage Site" of the city.
