Basilica of Esztergom

The Basilica of Esztergom is a classic example of baroque architecture, the largest church in Hungary and the home of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Esztergom - the mother church and the highest seat of the Catholic Church in the country. Initially constructed in the 12th century, it underwent many reconstructions, and its current artwork is by some of the most famous Hungarian masters of the 18th and 19th centuries. It houses several valuable art pieces, such as the Gothic high altar, pilgrimage library, tombs, and many precious masterpieces of baroque painting.
