Stadtkirche Thun

Stadtkirche Thun and Thun Castle, in Thun, Switzerland, are the two oldest and most spectacular attractions the city has to offer. Located on the banks of the Aare River, both sites are situated atop a hill and offer spectacular views over the Alps, the city, and the river. Stadtkirche Thun – or the City Church of Thun – is the city’s main church, built in the Gothic style and rumored to be one of the oldest Protestant churches still in use in the country. Inside, visitors can marvel at the beautiful frescoes, stained glass windows, and the impressive pipe organ. Thun Castle, located adjacent to the church, has a feature-length history dating back to the 12th century and is home to a museum dedicated to its own history and that of the city. Its wings, corridors, and towers give visitors plenty of opportunity to explore, admire medieval furniture and decorations, and take in the impressive views across the city and its surroundings.
