And most of these houses are adorned with painted decorations, giving the street an extra special character. Skãrnu iela was named after its numerous old barns, located on the adjacent Zirgu iela (Street of Horses). As you walk down the street, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the small Zirgu strut (Horse yard), one of the oldest residential yards in Riga. Here you’ll find blacksmiths and saddlers, and can also buy clogs, made according to old traditional methods.
