Inside the Church stands a famous Baroque high altar and an impressive fresco depicting the life of Sixtus I from the school of Tiepolo. Built around 1145 as a private chapel of the powerful Visconti family, it was later given by them to the diocese of Piacenza in 1227. Although elements of the original construction remain, many subsequent renovations were implemented, restoring the original Romanesque beauty of the monument. Regular visitors can appreciate many features, such as the marble portal, the 16th-century frescoes and the adjacent cloister, or the Neo-Classical façade with double rows of windows.
