Whiteside Mountain

Whiteside Mountain stands in the Nantahala National Forest of North Carolina, at close to 5000 feet high. It’s an iconic mountain frequently boasting a brilliant white fog which gives the mountain its name. It’s not only the highest mountain in the Plott Balsam range, but also one of the most popular recreation areas in the region. From the summit, visitors can enjoy an expansive view including the Great Smoky Mountains and even four states – Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Its windy, steep terrain also makes for a challenging hike. It’s one of the most photographed spots in the region as well, with a rock overlook from the mountain’s summit providing extraordinary views of the surrounding region.
