Puertu Vieyu แปลว่า “ท่าเรือเก่า” ในภาษาอัสตูเรียส ชื่อนี้สะท้อนความผูกพันอันยาวนานของคูดิญีโรกับท้องทะเล หมู่บ้านชาวประมงบนชายฝั่งเหนือของสเปนแห่งนี้มีท่าเรืออยู่ใต้กลุ่มบ้านสีสันสดใสและถนนแคบ ๆ บนเนินชัน เมื่อมองจากริมน้ำ หน้าบ้านเรียงซ้อนเป็นชั้นเหนือเรือและท่าเทียบเรือ ทำให้ภูมิทัศน์เนินเขาอันโดดเด่นของหมู่บ้านเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของภาพพอ ๆ กับท่าเรือเอง
