Passo Sempione

Passo Sempione is a high mountain pass commonly used by hikers and cyclists, located in Simplon, Switzerland. By crossing the pass, you get to the Valais and the Val d'Ossola in Piedmont, Italy. Its elevation is 2009 meters above sea level, so the panorama views offered by the pass are amazing! Passo Sempione is a great destination to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy nature in all its beauty, especially during the summer period. Here you can visit the Simplon Glacier, located at the top of the pass and admire the lake of Gondo and enjoy the wonderful mountain landscape. You can also find cozy and picturesque mountain towns like Brig, Andermatt and Domodossola, which all make for beautiful photo opportunities. There is also the Passo del Sempione train tunnel, opened in 1906, which connects Switzerland and Italy–an impressive civil construction, dating back to the 19th century.
