Matadero Modelo

Matadero Modelo and La Ruta de Salamone is situated in Villa Epecuén, a salt-water village deep in the heart of Argentina. Founded in 1919 and once boomed as a major tourist destination, the village saw its services flourish in response to the tourists it attracted. Today, a century later, the village is mostly in ruins, caused by the floods that changed the landscape of Villa Epecuén.

At Matadero Modelo and La Ruta de Salamone, visitors will view the beautiful, turquoise water and admire the remains of the abandoned buildings that once comprised Villa Epecuén. Bird watchers will also happily find a wealth of species in the area. Visitors can explore the lake and its shoreline, which is filled with ancient structures, wild horses, and vibrant green foliage. The path leading around the lake will also provide visitors with breathtaking views of lagoons and wetlands, as well as some of the most beautiful sunsets in Argentina.
