Its impressive height is designed to symbolize the heavens and the power of the Ottoman state. Inside, Ayasofya features a distinctive double-shelled dome, while its walls and ceilings are decorated with beautifully preserved Byzantine-era mosaics and frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Jesus Christ. It is an amazing sight to behold. Ayasofya is now a museum located in Sultanahmet Square. Visitors can tour the interior, and learn about its history and significance.
