It was completed in 2003 and is part of the Zeeland Bridge project, which was designed to connect South Beveland with the mainland. The Zeelandbrug Bridge is the largest of the three bridges of this project, and is over 1.5 miles long, with a clear span of no less than 266 meters. The bridge has two sets of four lanes, two for each direction. At the time of its completion, the bridge was considered to be the longest double-hinged bascule bridge in the world. The bridge offers stunning views of the sea, the sandbanks and surrounding wetlands. It is also considered to be a great spot to observe the ships navigating on the River Oosterschelde.
