Verdandihuset
📍 Finland
Verdandihuset, located in the Aurajoki riverbank in Turku, Finland, is a remarkable example of late 19th century industrial architecture. Built in 1896 by Swedish master carpenter Oscar Guldberg, this unique three stories building is characterized by its characteristic yellow bricks and steep roof. It houses the world-renowned Anthropological Museum which is home to more than 35,000 items related to the history and culture of Finland. It also displays artefacts from around the world acquired by museum during its annual expeditions. One of the main attractions of Verdandihuset is the large steam engine, from the year 1895, on display in the engine room. It was used to generate power for the lighthouse which once stood nearby. It is also worth noting the beautiful panoramic view from the riverbank on the fourth floor. A visit to Verdandihuset is a great way to experience the industrial culture of Turku.
