📍 Från Behind, Spain
Torre de Hércules is the oldest Roman lighthouse still in use, located in the city of A Coruña in northern Spain. Built in the 2nd century, the structure is an iconic symbol of the city and regarded as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The 55-meter tower has a spiral staircase that winds up to the platform from which one can admire the beautiful panoramic views across the Bay of Coruña and the surrounding landscape. On a clear day, one can even spot the nearby islands of Cies and Ons. Besides being a great place to appreciate the views, Torre de Hércules is also home to a museum, which houses a collection of objects related to maritime activities and the history of the lighthouse. The tour also includes a visit to the light room at the very top of the tower, which emits a flashlight every 30 seconds. Visitors should make sure to bring some warm clothes and comfortable shoes, as it can be quite windy and cold at the top.
