Stadhuis van Gouda
📍 Netherlands
Gouda, Netherlands is home to the impressive Stadhuis (Town Hall). Listing on the National heritage list of monuments, this sandstone building is one of the most impressive structures in Gouda. Built in 1582, the Stadhuis was the seat of government in the former municipality of Gouda, and is still in use today as a venue for civil weddings. The exterior is simple and symmetrical, and the beautiful tower at the front and the 3 large, stepped gables make it a unique structure and one of the highlights of the city. The interior of the building is even more impressive, with two large interconnected rooms; the General Assembly and the Council Hall. Here visitors can find the ornate walls, the elaborately decorated fireplace and an 18th-century organ. The marble floor of the grand staircase is also a notable sight. A visit to the Stadhuis van Gouda is a perfect way to learn more about the city's history and culture.
