Sri Mariamman Temple

The Sri Mariamman Temple is a Hindu temple located in Chinatown, Singapore. Built in 1827, it is the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore and one of the most iconic Hindu temples in the city. Dedicated to goddess Mariamman, it is well known for its intricate and colourful gopuram, or entrance tower. The temple serves both of Singapore’s Tamilian and other Hindu communities and is the focal point of an important annual festival called Thimithi. Inside the temple, visitors will find several shrines and statues of various Hindu figures, including the goddess Mariamman. The temple has been restored a few times over the years and is currently a protected national monument in Singapore.
