Plaza de Colón

The Plaza de Colón is located in the center of Madrid, at the crossing between Paseo de Recoletos, Calle de Serrano, Calle del Doctor Esquerdo, Calle de Alcalá, and Paseo de la Castellana. It is named after Christopher Columbus and its main focus is a monument dedicated to him. The statue is of Columbus pointing towards America in recognition of his discoveries. Other features of the plaza include the central fountain, two fountains depicting the two victories of the Reconquista, and the Palacio de Neptuno. The plaza is home to numerous restaurants and cafes too, making it an ideal spot to stop for lunch.
