Monument to the Great Fire of London
📍 United Kingdom
The Monument to the Great Fire of London, located in the heart of the city, is a striking reminder of the 1666 fire which ravaged the city for three days and left an estimated 68,000 people homeless. It stands 202 feet tall and commemorates the event with a spiraling, marble-clad column topped with a golden urn of fire. The monument was created by Sir Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke and completed in 1677. Visitors can climb the 311 steps to the top of the Monument to experience one of the best views of London. There are also free exhibitions contained in the base of the monument which allow people to learn more about the history of the Great Fire. It is a popular spot for photography and a great opportunity to capture some unique perspectives of the city.
