Monument of national heroes
📍 Romania
The Monument of National Heroes in Bucharest is an iconic symbol of Romania's struggle for independence. It is situated in an open plaza at the University Square, with the National Museum of Romanian History on one side and the National Bank of Romania on the other. The monument was designed by the architect Horia Creangă, and erected in 1993 at the University Square. It stands at over 20 meters tall and is made up of three large bronze statues of Romanian historical figures: Michael the Brave, Tudor Vladimirescu, and Ion Heliade Rădulescu. The flames for the statues come from the eternal flame of the Unknown Soldier from Carol I Park. Around the monument are four marble steles, each 6 meters tall, which have inscriptions depicting the history of Romania, including its martyrs, heroes, and wars. This monument provides an important reminder of the struggles Romania faced to become an independent nation.
