Merchant Mariner Monument

The Merchant Mariner Monument is located in the coastal city of Sydney in Canada, and honors the bravery and sacrifice of the merchant mariners who lost their lives at sea during World War II. Standing a majestic 23 meters tall, the monument is comprised of a cast bronze figure of a merchant mariner on the bow of a ship, an anchor pit and a fountain. From the fountain, the symbolic waves of the sea ripple towards the life-sized bronze figure. The hand, arm and dedication panel of the monument all bear silent witness to an unselfish devotion to duty.
