The present structure of the abbey is nearly 900 years old and consists of the 12th- and 13th-century Norman church, distinctive lancet windows and transepts, and the 15th-century tower. Visitors to the abbey can take a self-guided tour, paying a nominal fee. Highlights of the tour include the 14th-century ruins of the nuns' choir, the 15th-century chapter house, the breathtaking view from the Abbey Tower, the remains of seven Saxon heads in the abbey church, and the medieval wall paintings in the nave and chancel.
